Bite Sized Lifestyle Tip #2- Workout at Home

Workout at Home.jpg

Do you finish your workday and the last thing you want to do is drive to the gym?  Baby is finally napping but can’t leave the house?  Consider working out at home.  While many question their motivation to  actually finish a workout at home, there are many options that deliver the same accountability as visiting the studio.  Personally, working out at home has been a game changer.  It eliminates all excuses that come with scheduling, as I truly can join a class at any time of day.  At home workouts also tend to be far more economical..  I paid around $100 for my annual online workout subscription, versus the $150+ I would have paid monthly for the same workout in studio.

I am a HUGE fan of Barre3 online workouts.  If you’ve tried a variation of barre before and haven’t been sold, give Barre3 a try.  Unlike many of the barre options I’ve tried, I love that Barre3 integrates many yoga poses, encourages you to listen to your body and offers a strong mindfulness component.  And if you found it easy, you weren’t doing the postures correctly 😉  However, if barre truly isn’t your thing, I’ve summarized some other great options below:

1)      Nike Training Club- Offers a variety of workouts to meet your needs- from HIIT to yoga to strength and mobility.  Customize the intensity and duration.

·         Free Trial: YES

·         Cost: $14.99 per month for premium

2)      Fitness Blender- Completely free and totally customizable based on exactly what you’re looking for.  Over 400 no-equipment workouts available.

·         Free Trial: Yes

·         Cost: FREE!

3)      Peloton- I’m sure most have heard of or been exposed to Peloton in one way or another over the past year.  This at home spin bike or treadmill comes with a steep price tag but has made a HUGE difference for many clients I’ve worked with.  If you do the math, the cost actually breaks down as quite reasonable in comparison to a monthly studio membership.  The company does now have a “Digital” membership with accessibility to many live workouts that don’t require the bike or treadmill.

·         Free Trial: No

·         Cost: Spin Bike- starting at $2245, Treadmill- starting at $4295, Digital- $19.49/month

4)      Aaptiv- Essentially a personal trainer in your pocket.  These completely audio based workouts offer you the convenience of a personal trainer wherever you are. Get support and guidance for everything from a 20 minute speed walk or strength workout to marathon training.

·         Free Trial: Yes

·         Cost: starting at $9.99

Before starting a new workout routine, I always recommend speaking with your primary care provider first.
